September 9th 2014 - Day 253

Cream - Spoonful

In my opinion, Cream were the first UK ‘super-group’; they were the combination of three very talented, original, and enthusiastic musicians who were trying to break new ground from their influential roots.

'Spoonful' was a Willie Dixon song that had been recorded originally by Howlin' Wolf, and much like The Rolling Stones did with Little Red Rooster, Cream made the song their own. Bruce's vocals are clean and rich, matching the haunting melody well, while all the instruments brutalise the tune, but it works brilliantly.

Cream burned fast and bright, but their influence was monumental on the British rock and blues scene. Enjoy this superb bit of footage.

Namaste.
